If you’re in the Dominican Republic between January and March, you must take this memorable tour to Samana Bay to witness the largest congregation of humpback whales that gather in these waters to breed. An experience of a lifetime, not to be missed!
Every year around 2000 to 3000 male and female humpback whales gather in the protected waters around the Dominican Republic to mate and calve. This full day adventure takes you out into the Caribbean Sea to watch these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. Listen to the male humpbacks solitary courting song and witness incredible displays of flippering, tail bobbing and breaching by the most active species of great whale in the Atlantic. You are accompanied on your cruise by a marine mammal specialist who will be on hand to explain what you are seeing and answer any questions.
Afterwards, your cruise continues to Cayo Levantado, often referred to as Bounty Island. This tiny island is found just off the Samana Peninsula and is characterised by white powder sand beaches and warm turquoise waters, perfect for a leisurely swim. Here you will be served an alfresco lunch accompanied by glass of chilled white wine. In the afternoon, let your troubles float away as you relax on the island, perhaps enjoy a swim or take a leisurely walk around the island before returning on the boat to Sabana del Mar and onwards to your hotel by coach.
